Some of the digits are grey. Is that a mistake?
No — it is the point. Grey digits are ones the arithmetic produced but the conversion factor cannot vouch for. The dark digits are the ones that carry real information. You can show more or fewer with the − and + buttons beside the number.
What does the brass dot mean?
The factor between those two units is exact by definition (an inch is exactly 25.4 millimetres, for instance), so every digit of the answer is real.
The swap button changed the units but not my number.
That is deliberate. Swapping exchanges the two units and leaves the figure you typed exactly as it was, so a round trip never drifts.
Currency rates look old.
Rates come from the European Central Bank, which publishes once a working day. The app shows the date of the rates it is using; if it cannot reach the bank it keeps the last set it had and tells you so.
Can I move my saved conversions to another device?
Yes. Settings has Export, which writes a file you can AirDrop or save, and Import, which adds a file's contents to the bench without altering anything already there.
